The Covid-19 Lockdown

The Covid-19 Lockdown

The 21-day lock down commences on Thursday 26th March. Thursday 26th March is rosh chodesh Nissan (the 1st day of a new month in the Hebrew calendar), the month when Pesach/Passover is observed. The exodus from Egypt was such a pivotal event in redemptive history, that HaShem said “This month will mark the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year for you” (Exodus 12:2).

And so, Passover commences on the 14th Nissan (8thApril) and is observed for seven days i.e. on 16th April – 22nd Nissan. The 21-day shutdown provisionally ends on 16th April 2020 i.e. the last day of Passover.
