Go for the Gold
The Tokyo Olympic Games are at their peak. It is amazing to see these world class athletes competing for the gold, silver and bronze medals.
At the same time there is something so "temporary" about their moments of glory. It seems so fantastic, yet in another year or so, that fame will fade. Many top athletes experience psychological crises during the events or shortly after.
The Olympic Games are the "best" the world has to offer. Yet the best the world has to offer is fading away.
I Corinthians 7:31
For this world (kosmos) in its present form (schema) is passing away.
I John 2:17
The world and its desires are passing away…
The games give us a taste of something glorious; yet the taste doesn't last long. It is inspiring, yet disillusioning at the same time. There must be something more.
There is something more. It is like an Olympic competition, but on a higher level. It demands total dedication, even agonizing effort like athletic training, but in the spirit, not only soul and body.
Its gold medals will never lose their glory, but will shine forever.
I Corinthians 9:25
Everyone who competes (agonizomai) in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown (stephanos) that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
There is a true medal, a glorious crown, an eternal prize. It is worth giving up everything in the world to obtain it. It comes from serving Yeshua's kingdom with all your heart; in faithfulness, generosity and sacrificial love.
I feel like an Olympic coach exhorting and encouraging you: GO FOR THE GOLD. Go for the true gold! Don't stop short!
In Yeshua's love,
