The Jewish Lord's Prayer

Recently, I was asked a question.

We know that the Lord does not tempt us (Ya'akov/James 1: 13b - "He himself tempts no one").

Why then, do we ask the LORD in the prayer He taught to His talmidim (disciples), "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

(Matthew 6:13)?

For the following two Friday evenings, I will explore this apparent contradiction.
